Chicago Beer Meetup

2008/04/30 by Jim Leave a Comment

Last weekend John, the Organizer for the Chicago Beer Meetup group on meetup.com, stepped down as organizer.  I wasn’t sure if I was the man for the job, but I am definitely the man for the beer, so I stepped up.  I am the new Organizer and I’ve scheduled my first event. Chicago Beer Meetup … [Read more…]

Beer SCIENCE and HISTORY

2008/04/07 by Jim Leave a Comment

Brewing went well on Saturday and I’m very excited about this batch.  I’m closing in on perfecting the brown ale, or at least the brown ale the way I want to drink it. Also, today is the 75th anniversary of 3.2% beer becoming legal again after Prohibition.  Prohibition wasn’t officially repealed until later in 1933.  … [Read more…]

No Fuggles. Shit.

2008/04/03 by Jim Leave a Comment

So apparently the Fuggle hops, my absolute favorite, are one of the varieties affected by the hop shortage, about which I am fairly ignorant so I probably need to school myself.  Anyway, I’ll be using Willamette instead… but I’ll be thinking of Fuggle.

Beer Glorious Beer

2008/04/03 by Jim Leave a Comment

I whipped up a recipe last night, and Saturday is looking good to get my first brewing session of 2008 under way.  I’m behind, as my buddy Bob (who is holding all my equipment for ransom) has already got 2 batches aging. So I’ll be doing a simple English brown ale, which is my favorite style … [Read more…]

Fucking DotNetNuke II

2008/04/02 by Jim Leave a Comment

For some reason the 3 failed blog entries from this morning just showed up.  WTF???   I’ve deleted the duplicates now.  But here is my original “Fucking DotNetNuke” rant from earlier, in the interest of full disclosure.   I just tried to upgrade the CMS to the latest version and it completely horked the blog. I … [Read more…]

Fucking DotNetNuke

2008/04/02 by Jim 2 Comments

This fucking CMS sucks. First I tried to upgrade to the latest version this morning. I followed all the instructions precisely but the upgrade completely broke this blog, causing a ton of database access errors. So I tried upgrading the blog module, hoping that would fix it. No change. I backed off and restored my … [Read more…]

Breakfast of Champions

2008/04/02 by Jim Leave a Comment

I just got to work, opened the fridge to put my lunch in, and saw a 12-pack of beer.  Not even very good beer, MGD I think.  Is it so wrong that my first thought was “Hmmmmm, I could have a beer…” Yeah it probably is.  Oh well, coffee is almost as good.

Strong On His Mountain

2008/04/02 by Jim Leave a Comment

I think the reason Aaron even asked me to do some shows here on Radio Gen1us in the first place is ’cause he was hoping I’d do a metal show. ‘Cause I am totally metal. Believe it. Anyway, now I’ve gone and done it and god help those of you who listen. Metal is not … [Read more…]

Restless Leg Syndrome

2008/03/01 by Jim Leave a Comment

“People with RLS feel uncomfortable sensations in their legs, especially when sitting or lying down, accompanied by an irresistible urge to move about.” Like they got ants in their pants and they just gotta dance? “…often described by people as burning, creeping, tugging, or like insects crawling inside the legs.” So, that’s a yes. Am … [Read more…]
